I decided to be cliché like all other bloggers and write a year-end review post. It’s a fun way to look back on the year and all the fun things that have happened, as it was an exciting year!

January 2013

I started the year out by participating in the Moore on Running 13 miles for 2013 group run and the TrySports run club.

Clay and a bunch of friends did a sushi eating challenge at Bushido. The restaurant was on Man vs. Food or some TV show. Unfortunately, none of them ate all 10 rolls to complete the challenge, but we still had a great time.

I ran the Charlie Post 15K (first 15K) and Charleston half marathon. My friends Virginia and Nadine did the 5Ks at these races, and I’ve decided they have the right idea… hence my break from long distances in 2014.

February 2013

Clay and I celebrated Valentine’s Day with a fun dinner at Waffle House. We did a real Valentine’s date at a fancy restaurant that Saturday night.

I ran the Ashley Ridge Fox Trot 5K and PRed with a 22:54. It stands as my current 5K PR on a certified 5K course.

Clay and I looked at homes and got pre-approved for a mortgage loan!

I became an ambassador for the TrySports Mt. Pleasant running store. I started running with the TrySports run club when I moved to Charleston, so I was super happy to be invited to join the team. As an ambassador, I represent the store at races and group runs and help out with training programs.

March 2013

Clay and I attended the Charleston Food and Wine festival and I wrote an article for PeeDeeFoodie.com about the festival.

I ran the Shamrock Shuffle 10K and PRed! I also won my age group.

I spectated my first race, the Catch the Leprechaun 5K. It was the graduation race for some of my friends who did a Couch to 5K program with MooreOnRunning.com. Some of those Couch to 5Kers are now training for half marathons!

April 2013

My friend and co-worker Carol came to visit us in Charleston. We went out to eat at Angel Oak restaurant and it was fun hanging out. She is a remote worker from Virginia so we don’t get to see each other often, but we have a great time when we do.

DSCN5610

I won first female overall at the World Grits Festival 5K in St. George. It wasn’t a big race, but I was still proud of my overall win.

We found our dream home and proceeded with the buying process.

May 2013

We closed on our home and moved in.

I ran the Race for Taylor 10K in Florence and PRed in the 10K, beating my time from the Shamrock Shuffle. Nadine ran the 5K and PRed, we had a lot of fun that day.

I also ran the May Day half marathon, which was a pop up race. I intend to do it in 2014, too.

June 2013

Clay and I went to his class reunion in Hartsville.

Peyton Moore passed away. I met Peyton at the LifePoint Gift of Life 5K, which Peyton, his dad Noah, and I ran in the pouring rain and puddles. Every time I run in the rain, I now think of Peyton and dedicate those runs to him.

Peyton sure loved running in the rain, and even though I didn’t know him that well and only ran with him a few times, his death impacted me, and the entire Charleston running community, in a profound way.

After several lackluster local races, I signed up for the Darlington Marathon and started officially training. I figured being broke this summer, training for a marathon would give me something to do. I now realize that was not a very good reason.

Stay tuned for July-December!
